​South Fork American River, below South Fork Powerhouse

The South Fork American River follows a deep, lightly forested canyon which is usually not boatable. During whitewater boating releases, experienced rafters and kayakers will find Class V whitewater. This is accessible from the streamgage below South Fork Powerhouse, which is located at the end of a steep walk past a locked gate along Slab Creek Reservoir Road (Forest Road 11N96).
