This reservoir fills the bottom of the steep, forested South Fork American River canyon downstream from Forebay Road. There is a boat launch at the west end, suitable primarily for car top watercraft, which is accessible off of North Canyon Road on Slab Creek Reservoir Road (Forest Road 11N96).
